AG, JAPANESE VICE-MINISTER MEET TO TALK GREATER DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION

1/29/2018
At a meeting in Suva this afternoon, the Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Hon. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum met with the Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Iwao HORII, to discuss the Nadi River flood protection project, among other topics.

In their meeting, the Vice-Minister commended Fiji for its successful COP23 leadership, expressing Japan’s continued support in the global fight against climate change, and encouraged closer Fijian-Japanese cooperation in other areas of shared strategic interest. He also welcomed Fiji Airways’ recently-announced direct flight to Tokyo, a gateway to new opportunities for both countries in trade, tourism, and investment.

“Japan’s experience in addressing extreme weather events, paired with its cutting-edge technology and innovative thinking, can greatly assist us in moving forward the Nadi River Flood Protection Project,” said the AG. “We look forward to further building upon the already-strong relationship between the Japanese and Fijian peoples.”
