FIJIAN PRIME MINISTER SENDS MESSAGE OF SYMPATHY AND SOLIDARITY TO THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER

5/23/2017
The Right Honourable Theresa May,
Prime Minister,
10 Downing Street,
London SW1A2AA
United Kingdom.

Dear Prime Minister,

On behalf of the Fijian Government and Fijian people, I write to express my profound shock and deepest sympathy in the wake of the terrorist attack in Manchester.

To target innocent young people attending a concert is an especially terrible crime. And the thoughts and prayers of every Fijian are with the families of the victims and those who have been injured.
This attack in the middle of your election campaign is also an assault on democracy. And Fiji stands with Britain in complete solidarity in the defence of our democratic ideals and our determination not to be cowered by terrorism.

It is a matter of profound regret that this is the second time this year that I have had cause to send you such a message after the attack on your Houses of Parliament in March.

I repeat that Fiji stands shoulder to shoulder with the United Kingdom in our determination to defeat the terrorist threat. Our warm friendship is rooted not only in our historical ties but in our shared values. And we stand ready to support you in any way we can.

Yours sincerely,
J.V Bainimarama
Prime Minister
