Ladies, gentlemen and people of Fiji - Ni Sa Bula Vinaka, Salaam Alaykum, Namaste

As 2014 comes to an end, and as we gather to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas Day, I extend to all Fijians both here and abroad my warmest compliments and best wishes, along with those of my family.


It is an honour for me, as the Prime Minister of Fiji, to take part in this High Level Segment of the Human Rights Council – the first since we established our Mission here in Geneva last June.  
Today we are officially launching a concerted national clean-up campaign in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Winston. It involves all ministries of government pooling their resources and cooperating across a broad front to clean up Fiji.
Fiji is indeed fortunate that the convening of the Bali Democracy Forum, now in its sixth year, has been happening at a time when Fiji’s political history and democratization progress in particular has been re-written and begun to unfold.
From the day I arrived in Canada three days ago, it has been one remarkable experience after another, as I met with members of the Fijian diaspora and their families as well as members of the business community.
I’m very pleased to be in Rabi today as my tour of the Northern Division continues and meet many of our Fijians of Banaban descent. I’m here to listen to your concerns and tosee the progress being made in the Government’s program to deliver better services to you and your families
I have come to share with the many thousands of you Fijians who now reside in British Columbia the wave of optimism that is sweeping our island nation.
