Steps taken by the Fijian Government to maintain a sustainable fisheries sector against a backdrop of growing challenges was highlighted this week at the 5th Meeting of the African, Caribbean, and Pacific Group of States (ACP) Ministers in charge of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
The Prime Minister today briefed Pacific leaders on the progressive work undertaken before it assumes the presidency of COP23 - the ongoing UN negotiations on climate change.

Working in partnership in the lead up to COP23 and COP24, the ongoing UN negotiations on climate change, dominated talks held between Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda in New York today.
The European Union will provide its support to Fiji when it assumes the Presidency of COP23, the UN negotiations on climate change, in November this year.
Fiji’s leadership role in climate change and Fiji's success in a number of spheres dominated talks between Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Mr. Miroslav Jenca.
In accordance with section 153(4) of the Constitution of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Fiji, has today appointed Mr Faizul Ariff Ali as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji (‘Reserve Bank’) for a term of 5 years with effect from today.
I love with all my heart the idea of Fiji as a land governed by laws and high principles, not by the whims and desires and ambitions of individuals. And what fine principles our Constitution enshrines and upholds! It says that all Fijians are equal before the law, with equal rights and an equal voice in their government.
The 2017 Constitution Day will be celebrated this year at the Churchill Park in Lautoka on 7 September. H.E The President will lead the national celebrations at the Park and will be joined by students, government ministers, parliament members, civil society organisations and the general public at this annual holiday. 
Ambassador Deo Saran, Fiji’s Climate Ambassador and Special Envoy to the UNFCCC, participated in the 13th Seminar of Oxford-based Fellowship Programme, last week. This is an annual seminar organised by European Capacity Building Initiative (ECBI) and Oxford Climate Policy for climate negotiators and other stakeholders, at the University of Oxford.
The Fijian Government has reviewed and approved for the increase in meal allowances and raised the ceiling for overtime for civil servants effective from 01 September 2017.
