The Fijian Prime Minister and incoming COP23 President, Frank Bainimarama, has appealed to the US President, Donald Trump, not to abandon the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
Australian assistance for Fiji’s COP23 presidency has been the subject of talks in Sydney between the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, and his Australian counterpart, Malcolm Turnbull. The Prime Minister is in Australia for a four day visit and left soon after arriving to meet Mr Turnbull at his home in Sydney's eastern suburbs.
During his address at the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition’s (CPLC) High-Level Assembly, Fijian Attorney-General and Minister Responsible for Climate Change, Hon. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, urged priority be given to climate change adaptation for small states as opposed to the adoption of carbon pricing, given their negligible carbon footprints.
