MINISTRY OF INDUSTRY, TRADE AND TOURISM -CO-OPERATIVE OFFICER –[Lautoka/Nadi/Yasawa]

MITT 72/2017: CO-OPERATIVE OFFICER –[Lautoka/Nadi/Yasawa]

The incumbent will promote Co-operative principles and public awareness to enhance the development of Co-operatives in the Western Division. In addition develop and manage the Departments overall strategies and information system within the division and provide maximum support to Divisional Manager of Co-operatives for effective planning, control and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in Development and co-ordinate planning, management and control of allocated resources within the Division;
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and engagement with relevant stakeholders in the public and private sector, as well as development partners, and support the Divisional Manager of Co-operatives;
• Consult with the Divisional Manager of Co-operatives on strategies and planning issues or changes that will affect the activities in the Division;
• Assist in consultation with other government agencies and NGO’s that deal directly with the Co-operatives movement, on matters pertaining to the development of Co-operatives in the Division;
• Monitor the performance of co-operative development projects to be in line with the budgeted programme of performance and initiate corrective actions where necessary;
• Provide guidance and assistance to direct reports through effective training and development throughout the Division for the achievement of their KPIs; and

Persons Specification

• The incumbent must have at least 3 years relevant work experience and possess a relevant undergraduate degree in a related field such as commerce, economics, public sector management, development studies etc. A Diploma qualification will be considered in lieu of 10 years of continuous relevant work experience in a similar role.

Knowledge and Experience

• Significant proven experience in policy or advisory work in the public/private sector; and
• Sound understanding on the Co-operatives Act, principles and values and be able to apply to business practices
• Knowledge on business management and regulations in Fiji

Skills and Abilities

• Possess strong background knowledge and skills to effectively and efficiently manage resources to achieve the output set out in the Departments Business Plan;
• A thorough knowledge and understanding of co-operative principles and its application in business practice;
• Sound knowledge and skills to assess business proposals, make economic evaluations and make recommendations to the Registrar of Co-operatives on the registration of new Co-operatives;
• A good public speaker who can deliver informative presentations at all levels of divisional meetings and Provincial Council Meetings on matters pertaining to Co-operatives Development;
• Must have demonstrated intellectual capacity, drive, determination and integrity and proven to be a meritorious performer; and
• Possess the required computing skills/literacy and knowledge to use computing applications.

Compensation: Salary Band: F [$22, 528.74 - $36,103.75]
