SENIOR INFORMATION ASSISTANT (PUBLICATIONS) - DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION

DUTIES
The position will achieve its purpose through the following key duties:
• Reporting to the Principal Information Officer (News) through immediate supervisor for assisting and managing of the publication of Government events and activities through the Fiji Focus newspaper.
• Successful applicants will also be expected to assist in the publication of other materials including supplements, booklets, banners and all Government advertisements.
• Supporting the administration and logistics task of the News staff of the department;
• Providing support in the daily management of the News section on identification of Government policies, programs and achievements for coverage in the media;
• Providing assistance in liaising with Government Ministries, Senior Officials, Media organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations and Development agencies for media purposes;
• Assisting in the daily operation of the news section in particular in the assigning of various duties such as writing news/feature articles, research, editing statements and information dissemination;
• Assisting in news media facilitation during national events and assisting in upload on social media sites.


KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The applicant should possess:
• A relevant Diploma/Certificate in Journalism/ Graphic Arts and Design.
• At least 3 years or more experience in graphics and layout in a media organization or equivalent from a recognized institution with relevant work experience;
• Knowledge in InDesign, illustrator, Adobe light, Photoshop and photography skills.
• Must have an interest in people, news, current affairs and general knowledge of government operation;
• Demonstrate a high ability to work with a team.
• Effective written and communications skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and work in the weekends and extended hours;
• Ability to generate original ideas and the confidence to pitch to editors.

Compensation: Salary Band C: $12,081- $18,879.01 per annum
