The turaga ni koro can play an important and crucial role in the development of their villages. The Ra Provincial Council under the leadership of its Chairman, Tom Vuetilovoni, Minister for Commerce, Business Development and Investment, wants to make sure that the Turaga ni Koro do play the pivotal role in the total development of villages. Daylong workshops for each of the four tikinas were held covering the period from Monday February 2nd to Thursday 5th. The first workshop was held at Naocobau for the Tikina Nakorotubu, at Nawairuku for the Tikina of Nalawa, Burelevu for Saivou and at Navuavua for the Tikina of Rakiraki. The turaga ni koro discussed what they need to know and do to drive improvement and developments in villages, and to implement government initiatives at village level. The workshop also created opportunities for the Turaga ni Koro to be briefed on the planned re-organisation of the Fijian Administration. The recent increase of the Turaga ni Koro allowance recognised the importance of their roles in the improvement and development of village lives. Ra has taken the initiative to harness and effectively utilise this important link in the development of Fijian in rural society. -End- |
