Matairavula applauds Housing Authority Nausori Center opening
Oct 18, 2004, 13:40

The opening of the Nausori Customer Relations Centre clearly demonstrates that the Housing Authority has the ability to quickly respond to opportunities and at the same time adjust to dynamic changes that come into play in the competitive housing market.

The comment was made by the Minister for Public Enterprises and Public Sector Reform Irami Matairavula while opening the Housing Authority’s Nausori Customer Relations Centre last week.

"The Authority must be responsive to the needs of its customers and at the same time operate in a financially viable manner."

Mr Matairavula said Government looks at housing as a basic need and the ownership of a decent home for a family as a basic right.

"It is committed to creating the right environment for development of housing and investment.

"I believe that with the demand for lots in the Suva-Nausori corridor, the development of ‘Waila Housing city’ project will not only alleviate housing problems for our people but enable the home building industry to assist in the country’s economic growth."

Government, he said is committed to taking development and the many benefits which flow from it to the people.

"Nausori is growing in every facet of development. Government is doing its part in catalyzing this development through projects such as construction of the new Rewa Bridge, proposed upgrading of Nausori Airport, upgrading of road and water supply in Nausori-Suva corridor and now the opening of this branch office of Housing Authority."

Mr Matairavula said Government is also very grateful for the important role private sector is playing in the development and growth of Nausori.

"If there is anything we can do to further assist the private sector in this regards, we are prepared to listen to and address your concerns in an efficient and responsive manner."

Mr Matairavula said from its humble beginnings in 1955, Housing Authority has come a long way. The Authority had only 3 offices until about 2 years ago including its Head Quarters in Valelevu and 2 branch offices one in Lautoka and the other in Labasa.

"In line with its new vision to take its service to the people, the Authority opened 3 more offices within 24 months.

"A new Customer Relations Centre was opened in downtown Suva in November 2001, another office was opened in Nadi in March 2003 and this one now in Nausori.

"The Lautoka Office was extensively re-furbished this year. This Authority is planning to open another Customer Relations Centre in Ba before the end of this year."

He said Government is also pleased to note that the Authority’s various projects are in progress and/or in design stage to commence development next year.

"One of these projects, that is, 466 Lot Waila Stage 3B Subdivision, is here in Nausori and is currently being developed and scheduled for completion next year.

"The Authority’s plan to develop its 900 acre land in Waila is a significant initiative to solve the housing shortages within the Suva-Nausori corridor."
