Nawi water project
Difficulties in accessing a basic need will be a worry of the past for Nawi Village when the Minister for Works Commander Timoci Natuva opens its new water supply system today.
The Nawi water project constructed at a cost of $66,414.55 should solve long standing problems villagers faced.
The seaside village in the province of Cakaudrove faces Buca Bay on Vanua Levu.
A villager Sakapo Tui said the old water tank, which was more than four decades old, could no longer meet the increasing demand from a growing village population.
The new water tank was undertaken as part of the self help scheme whereby the community contributed one tenth of the total project costs.
The scheme serves 45 households and a primary school with a roll of about 60 students.
The water project lasted eight weeks.
