Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has made his mark in Tonga.

This was evident in the official welcoming ceremonies this morning when both on arrival and departure from the venue, he was treated with huge applause and cheers.

The outgoing Chairman of the Pacific Islands Leaders Forum (PILF), Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare in his opening remarks asked for patience and understanding of the forum members as Fiji moves ahead to find its own home-grown solutions to its internal problems.

Sir Michael compared the forum as family and requested all the help for Fiji to enable it to continuously address the challenges.

The outgoing Secretary General of the Commonwealth Don Mckinnon in his words to the Forum leaders plenary session expressed their concerns over developments in Fiji and reaffirmed also their support for the Pacific islands Forum engagement with Fiji.

Mckinnon said even though the Commonwealth has had difficulties with Fiji, they remain fully engaged both through the Forum and directly with Fiji.

He adds that the Commonwealth is committed to providing assistance that restores democracy and the Commonwealth's other fundamental principles, helps all of Fiji's people to come together to address the coup culture once and for all.

Commodore Bainimarama also had a one on one meeting with Mr Mckinnon. The meeting has been described as informative and fruitful.

The leaders travel tomorrow to attend the Retreat in Vava'u. Fiji will be given an opportunity to make a statement, when the Fiji situation comes up for discussions in the agenda.
