The name of a new candidate for the position of the Supervisor of Elections is now being scrutinised by the interim Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. Mr Sayed-Khaiyum confirmed receiving the recommendation from the Constitutional Officers Commission yesterday. (FT)

The Fijian Teachers Association has welcomed the Education Ministry's decision to continue paying allowances for acting positions from the beginning of this year. Speaking from Brisbane, association president Tevita Koroi said it was good that interim Education Minister Filipe Bole had clarified the ministry's stand on acting positions in schools. (FT)

Fiji's first woman to sit on the National Security Council will be the interim Minister for Women, Dr Jiko Luveni. The interim Cabinet decision yesterday followed a submission she made over the various aspects of security issues women face. (FT)

Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Limited has acquired the majority 51 per cent ownership of mobile operator Vodafone Fiji Limited from Telecom Fiji Limited. The announcement follows completion of legal and regulatory processes. Companies that come under ATH include Telecom Fiji Limited, Vodafone Fiji Limited, Fiji Directories Limited, Internet Services Fiji Limited (Connect), Transtel Limited and Xceed Pasifika Limited. The Constituency Boundaries Commission is on the verge of producing the new boundaries for elections. Commission chairman Suresh Chandra said they were in the process of analysing voter movement and would be able to determine the new boundaries after this. (FT)

Interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama will lead a delegation to Rotuma to celebrate Rotuma Day next week, the Prime Minister's Office said yesterday. (FT)
