Ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase will continue to be grilled by the by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption tomorrow. Mr Qarase was also questioned on Friday and Saturday. FICAC is questioning him over alleged abuse of power when he was Fijian Affairs Minister and the allegations date back five years ago. (FT)

The Fiji Broadcasting Corporation LTD has announced a record profit of $80,000 for the first quarter of this year compared to $20,000 in 2007. FBCL chairman Daniel Whippy says they did exceptionally well given, the political and economic climate in Fiji. (FT)

An Australian-based employment agency hopes to provide 1000 people with jobs in Australia's mining industry. Australian Mining Employment Services conducted a two-day recruitment drive at the Mercure Hotel in Nadi to identify skilled workers that could be absorbed in the country's mining industry. (FT)

Everyone needs to learn where the Pacific stands in the world of tourism, says South Pacific Travel chief executive Tony Everitt. He said participants attending the South Pacific Travel and the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) two-day forum on "Intelligent Tourism Investment" would touch on this. The forum will be held on May 28-29 at the Novotel Hotel in Nadi. (FT)

The country's largest farmers' union has welcomed the Fiji Sugar Corporation's $1billion contract to supply sugar to the European Union market. The National Farmers Union yesterday promised to work closely with farmers and boost productivity so that FSC would be able to fulfill the 300,000 tonnes export quota under the contract signed with EU giants, Tate & Lyle. A school of a kind will be built at Navovo in Cuvu, Nadroga, not only for children but for anyone who wants to be educated. The Ka Levu, Ratu Sakiusa Makutu, officiated at the ground breaking ceremony yesterday and said the school would benefit the future generation of his province as well as those who wished to go for first-class education.
