The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group is meeting in London tonight to consider whether Fiji has made enough progress to be eligible to re-enter the Commonwealth. According to Radio New Zealand, ministers from the Commonwealth group of countries are meeting in London tonight New Zealand time to consider whether to re-admit Fiji to the councils of the organization. Fiji Broadcasting Corporation chairman Daniel Whippy has attributed the companys first quarter profit to the leadership changes in the company. Mr Whippy said the FBCL has made a profit of $80,000 for the first quarter of this year which he says is the best ever compared to the previous years profits of about $120,000 achieved in a year. (FT)

The Fiji Employers Federation believes the time could not be better to introduce Performance Management System. Federation chief executive officer Ken Roberts said implementing PMS would mean that those who are underperforming will not get unnecessary pay increments. Mr Roberts said the FEF as an organisation have banned the usage of the term Cost of Living Adjustment because it doesnt work. (FT)

There is a need to recognise more of women's contribution in the society. Fiji Women's Crisis Centre coordinator Shamima Ali said women were the pillars of strength for their families. "It is occasions like Mothers Day that we need to reflect on mothers' role and how much they have done for us," Ms Ali said yesterday. (FT)

The Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority says the new income tax threshold cannot be implemented before June 1 because operational matters need to be sorted out. FIRCA chief executive Jitoko Tikolevu said these operational matters included tax forms and the updating of the IT system. Mr Tikolevu said they would be ready to implement the new tax threshold from June 1st. The interim regime announced that from June 1 the income tax threshold will be raised from $9000 to $15,000. This means 20,000 more people will be exempt from paying income tax. It means the State will lose $20m in tax revenue. (FT)

More than 200 military personnel returned from a six-months tour of duty in Iraq on Saturday. The military's media cell said a chartered Egyptian Airlines aircraft flew the soldiers home. They arrived at Nadi Airport on Saturday morning. (FT)
