Oinafa has been declared Rotuma's official port of entry. Commissioner Eastern Tomasi Tui yesterday confirmed the decision by a Cabinet team led by interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama which met with members of the Rotuma Council of Chiefs at Ahau. No financial figures were given yesterday, but Mr Tui believes the declaration will benefit the island economically. (FT)

More money and initiatives have to be injected to address unemployment among youths, says interim Education Minister, Filipe Bole. Mr Bole said the overwhelming response received by the Ministry of Youth's National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS) was a clear indication of the high demand for such training. (FT)

More than 16,000 people visited the MV Doulos over the nine days that it has been open to the public at the Queen's Wharf in Lautoka. The world's oldest seafaring passenger ship is scheduled to leave for Suva tomorrow night as it continues its voyage of spreading knowledge, hope and help to the nations it visits. (FT)

The increase in violent acts on foreign nationals must be addressed in order to restore Fiji's tourism image as one of the safest destinations in the world, says Fiji Visitors Bureau chairman Patrick Wong. "If the concerns for the increase in violent acts are not addressed it would change the image of Fiji being the safest destination," he said. "But Fiji is still one of the safest destinations although we have been bruised by these recent attacks on foreigners." (FT)

Chiefs of the island of Rotuma have declared their support for the proposed People’s Charter. At a meeting between the Rotuma Island Council and the Government delegation led by the Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama, the islanders affirmed their full support for the Proposed Charter.
