The Minister for Labour, Industrial Relations, Employment, Local Government, Urban Development and Housing, Lekh Ram Vayeshnoi, is pleased with the determination the National Fire Authority is showing in pursuing the output specifications in the Strategic Roadmap the Interim Cabinet approved last year.

While inaugurating the ground-breaking ceremony for the new fire station in Nadi yesterday, Mr Vayeshnoi indicated his satisfaction that the NFA is doing well to ensure the goals outlined in the Roadmap are brought to fruition as this will instantly mean improved services to the public.

“The NFA is currently working on the new fire station in Nadi and will soon start on a new station for the rapidly developing town of Savusavu in the Northern Division. It had recently completed the Sigatoka station.

Chief Fire Officer, Mark Reid attributed the successful developments within the NFA to its Board of Directors.

“We have a very progressive board,” he said.

Mr Reid said apart from Savusavu there are also plans to develop permanent fire stations in areas that have temporary fire facilities.

“We have just secured land at Savusavu and I expect we will have a similar ground breaking there in a couple of months. The next places we will look at is Nauva, Tavua, Rakiraki, areas where we have fire stations in temporary capacity and we would very much like to have permanent stations there,” Mr Reid said.
