More consultation is needed between Government and tourism stakeholders, says Fiji Islands Hotel and Tourism Association president Dixon Seeto. He said ongoing meetings between the interim Finance and Tourism ministers, Fiji Inland Revenue and Customs Authority, and National Planning were held in Nadi on Saturday. He said talks centred on how best to improve the industry and how Government could help it recover. (FT)

The new-look Great Council of Chiefs has 29 confirmed representatives, says GCC head hunter Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo. The chief from Kadavu, who leads the GCC Taskforce Team to solicit support for the organisation, leaves for Rotuma today onboard the Iloilovatu where he is confident of a positive welcome and response. Ratu Josateki said Macuata, Lau, Serua and Bua have confirmed their membership along with six nominees from the Minister for Fijian Affairs. (FT)

A district rep to the Lau Provincial Council says it is his duty to ensure a harmonious relationship is maintained in the province. Ono-i-Lau district rep Waisea Davuiqalita said it was his duty to do the matanigasau (traditional apology) to the newly-appointed council chairman Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara. (FT)

The National Strategic Committee on Bio-fuel intends to install coconut oil plants in the outer islands of Fiji this year as a way to develop sustainable economies in the islands. Committee chairman Viliame Yabakivou said 80 per cent of the production of coconut was in the province of Cakaudrove and 20 per cent in the outer islands including Rotuma. Oil plants have been installed at Cicia and Lakeba in the Lau Group, with another two to be installed in Gau and Rotuma later this year. (FT)
