| 1/7/08 - Govt approves purchase of rollers for Roads Department |

12 Vibrating Rollers will be purchased for the Department of National Roads’(DNR) Rural Depots for road maintenance and upgrading works.
Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the Minister for Works and Transport, Colonel Timoci Natuva.
Colonel Natuva explained that with the current number of Vibrating Rollers, the DNR is unable to maintain and upgrade its entire road network and at the same time construct new roads nation-wide, particularly in the rural areas.
“It is, therefore, important to purchase the 12 new rollers to improve the road conditions as a matter of priority and to keep it to an acceptable standard.”
He said that public tenders have been called through the Controller of Government Supplies for the purchase of these 12 Rollers together with the 15 Graders already endorsed by the Cabinet on 6th May 2008.
The Minister added that funding will be sourced from within the Department of National Roads’ approved Capital Budget for 2008.
