| 1/7/08 - Govt to review scholarship criteria |

Cabinet has approved a review of all Government scholarships.
The review of the Fiji Government scholarship administered by the Public Service Commission (PSC), the Multi-Ethnic Affairs scholarship and the Fijian Affairs Scholarship will be undertaken by the PSC with the view to harmonize the three in order to remove the differences in the selection criteria.
Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.
The Prime Minister explained that all three scholarships were awarded on differing criteria.
“The aim of the review, however, will be to provide assistance to deserving meritorious students without any discrimination on the parental income bracket, full or partial scholarships and the number of bonded years.”
He said that following the review, the PSC will provide a way forward on this matter for Cabinet consideration later this year.
