The interim Government yesterday ruled bus fares will not increase. Instead, the State will give operators a direct subsidy of 10 per cent of VAT Exclusive Price (VEP) on fuel. Interim Transport Minister Timoci Natuva said the 10 per cent VEP would be based on monthly takings reported by each registered bus operator to FIRCA that would be adjusted on movement in fuel price. Twelve landowning units have approved the dereservation of their land for leasing purposes. Native Land Trust Board acting general manager Meli Benuci confirmed the 12 landowning units had approved the dereservation of their native reserves after consultation with the NLTB. (FT)
The interim regime will subsidise landowners with $8million for the use of their land for agricultural farming purposes under the Committee for Better Utilisation of Land.
