The nationwide strike by bus operators yesterday achieved its purpose - it created confusion, shut down schools, affected national productivity and forced masses of workers to either show up late or call in absent from work. Schools around the country closed for a day under a directive from the Ministry of Education. (FT)

Police investigations have started to ascertain if the nationwide bus strike yesterday breached any law. Police assistant spokesman Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed this yesterday. He said it was a normal investigation into strike action to see if any law was breached during the early morning strike by bus operators. (FT)

Yesterday's bus strike brought smiles to other public transport operators who took up the slack in the rural areas of the Northern Division. Carrier, taxi and private vehicle owners helped with public transportation going as far as Seaqaqa. Vanua Levu Carriers Association president Samuel Jeet said the drivers left their base at about 5am and started picking up passengers in Labasa, Savusavu, Bua and Taveuni. (FT)
