28/7/08 - Cabinet approves new fees and charges for the Fiji Public Trustee Corporation Limited

Cabinet has approved the revised fees and charges of the Fiji Public Trustee Corporation Limited (FPTCL).

Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Electoral Reform, Public Enterprises and Anti-Corruption, Mr Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum explained that despite the corporatisation of the Office of the Public Trustee and the formation of the FPTCL, FPTCL still uses the fees and charges that were effected more than 40 years ago in 1964.

He said that it is imperative that the FPTCL’s fees and charges be reviewed since they are no longer financially reliant on Government to perform their operation.

“The salient amendments include the downward revision of acceptance fee by 1%; upward revision of current fees by 1.5 – 2%; restructure of current charges in terms of the reclassification of fees to reflect the tasks undertaken, and new fees on tasks undertaken such as search, court application, photocopying, will preparation, probates and letters of administration, bank fees, service fees, distribution fees.”

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum also said that the fee for tasks related to the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) monies will be a flat rate of 2.5% of the net value of each FNPF case that needs to be processed for payments to spouses and beneficiaries.
