Parents have been urged to spend more time with their children during the two weeks holiday. Acting interim Prime Minister and interim Defence Minister, Ratu Epeli Ganilau said education enlightens a childs mind, soul and it is the foundation that can help in the development of our country both economically and socially. The Premier of Niue hopes journalists focus on more than just Fiji in their coverage of the regional leaders' meeting, which is to begin tomorrow, reports The Australian. Niue Premier Toke Talagi has asked journalists not to focus on the negative issues during the meeting, alluding to Fiji. (FT)

Interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry has exited from the interim Government to concentrate on his party affairs. Also out are interim Tourism Minister Tom Ricketts and interim Labour Minister Lekh Ram Vayeshnoi. This was decided at the Fiji Labour Party council meeting in Nadi yesterday. (FT)

The first shipment of woodchips worth around $15 million is expected to be exported to Japan through the Wairiki Port in Bua by mid September to coincide with its official opening. (fijivillage.com)
