An alarming street value estimate of $50million has been placed on marijuana confiscated over the past five years from the highland region of Navosa. The figure collated by police yesterday follows the biggest single raid this week of three marijuana plantations where close to 7000 plants were uprooted just outside Tonuve Village in the district of Bemana. Police said the plants would have been ready for harvest in December with a street value of more than $2million. Keyasi station officer Inspector Kitione Kulavere said police were tipped off by villagers in the area. (FT)

The Methodist Church conference will decide whether to allow defrocked ministers or church stewards to preach from the pulpit again. The church's assistant general secretary, Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu, said a church official could be ex-communicated for reasons ranging from consistent abuse of funds to committing adultery. More than 350 people flocked to have their eyes checked at Furnival Park over the past two and a half days. Vision 2020 Fiji project officer Vika Vakaloloma said the checks at the venue of the annual Methodist choir competition in Toorak, Suva, were successful.
