Fiji’s acting interim Finance Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday indicated that next year’s national budget will be “pro-poor” and would try to boost investor confidence. Bainimarama challenged his ministers and permanent secretaries to commit to change. (fijilive.com)

Interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama will be the chief guest at the ‘Mini Economic Summit’ to be held this morning. Over 200 stakeholders will attend this two-day summit. (radiofiji.com)

Fiji’s economy is expected to recover mildly this year. The latest forecasts released by the Reserve Bank of Fiji indicate that economic growth for 2008 is unchanged at 1.7 percent . Forecast says while a small improvement has been noted in the partial indicators for consumer goods in 2008, this is to a large extent explained by the high inflation environment. (radiofiji.com)

The Citizen's Constitutional Forum has clarified that it has not been involved in consultations on the Draft People's Charter. Chief Executive, Rev Akuila Yabaki confirms he has not been directly involved in the draft consultation process and adds the CCF as part of its education program, educates on the Constitution and the provisions of the 1997 Constitution and how it can be changed in the proper manner. There's nothing wrong with the People's Charter. These are the words of the Ra Provincial Council Chairman, Ratu Meli Bolobolo, who said if people take the time to carefully study what's in the Charter, then they will realise that it will benefit everyone irrespective of race or religion, because the Charter will improve everyone's lives. The Ra Provincial Council had rejected the People's Charter during their Bose Ni Vanua earlier this year. (fijivillage.com)

The original owners of Nukulau Island are now putting proposals together to acquire the lease to the island for development purposes and are requesting the Suva City Council to back down from its plans to lease the island. Representative of the Roko Tui Dreketi on Nukulau Island matter, Ro Filipe Tuisawau told Fijivillage that they have met with the Interim Lands Minister on the matter. (fijivillage.com)
