The survivors of the tragic bus accident that claimed 11 peoples lives, left for Ovalau at midday yesterday. Close to 50 people who were sheltering at the Soqosoqo Vakamarama House in Nabua are from Natokalau Village in Ovalau. Adi Finau Tabakaucoro from the Soqosoqo Vakamarama i Taukei Group said the departure was an upsetting time for them. "It was an upsetting us for us as they left heading back to their village. (FT)

Citizen's Constitutional Forum has advised the Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua party to be part of the presidential forum on political reforms. Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua Party earlier stated that it has pulled out of the forum as a result of changing roles of Commonwealth envoy Sir Paul Reeves. SDL director Peceli Kinivuwai said the forum has lost its credibility with Sir Paul being relegated forum chairman to facilitator. (FT)

Interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama believes the initiative of the draft Peoples Charter has presented Fiji the opportunity to re-examine itself as a nation. Commodore Bainimarama said the preparation of the Charter has presented an opportunity to the people of Fiji to embark on an exhaustive examination of the nations political, economic, social and cultural structures, and to identify the shortcomings that contributed to the abysmal record of successive governments since May 1987. Civil servants who do not support the People's Charter will not be penalised, says Public Service Commission chairman Rishi Ram. He said PSC would not be able to tell who supported the charter and who did not. "They are doing their job in the campaign," he said of civil servants promoting the charter. Whether they don't like it or not is up to them." (FT)

The removal of Fijis race based electoral system and reforming relevant policies and institutional structures will help build a stable and harmonious society, says interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama. Commodore Bainimarama made the comments at the launch of the 2008 Prime Ministers Mini Economic Summit held at Lami yesterday. (FT)

The Reserve Bank of Fiji has not performed to expectations but the economy is expected to grow by an average of 1.7 per cent from next year. RBF Governor Savenaca Narube said last year the economy was at a decline but projections for next year show a growth of 1.4 per cent. Mr Narube was speaking at the interim Prime Minister's Mini Economic Summit held at the Raffles Tradewinds Convention center yesterday. (FT)
