The Police Department is expected to receive the Land Transport Authority's investigation report into the bus fire that claimed 12 lives in Sigatoka. Police concluded their site investigation into the matter earlier this week and is expected to now analyse the various reports provided by the LTA and the two Australian Federal Police experts on the bus fire. The role of Commonwealth envoy, Sir Paul Reeves in Fiji's political forum can only be that of a facilitator, says head of the National Council for Building a Better Fiji Secretariat, Mr John Samy. Speaking to a local radio station, Mr Samy said the President's letter to the Commonwealth Secretary General had not recommended that Sir Paul be the Chair of the Forum as widely claimed by political party Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua and media. Interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama says he will not fail the people of Fiji and fulfil the vision outlined in the People's Charter. And he said the rejectionists would not detract his regime from its selected course. Speaking at the close of the two-day mini-economic summit in Suva yesterday, he said the People's Charter had a vision to unify Fiji on a path of peace, stability, growth and sustainable, democratic governance. Interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama says he will appoint a minister for regional, provincial and outer island development. It comes after concerns from six sectors at the mini summit in Lami. "Following this summit, I will take steps to appoint a minister with dedicated responsibility to spearhead regional, provincial and outer island development including infrastructure development," he said. Chairpersons of the six working groups at the mini-economic summit are expected to keep interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama busy in the weeks ahead. Cmdr Bainimarama proposed further talks with working group chairpersons and one other member of each group within the next fortnight. He said infrastructure development would be given high priority in his 2009 budget. (FT)

Medical authorities have recorded an alarming rise in dengue fever cases in the West from 42 to 60 within 24 hours. And it is expected to increase as doctors receive an average of 15 cases a day. Senior Medical Officer Western Dr Tharid Ali said as of yesterday, the number of reported cases increased by 18. (FT)
