Copies of the draft People’s Charter for Change and Progress document has now been distributed in all villages in the Yasawas, a Government Official reported.

Press Secretary Commissioner Western, Mr Waisale Tora said three teams were deployed to Yasawa early last week to distribute the document to all villages in the Yasawa group to enable people to go through the booklets before the consultation teams visit villages next week commencing 8 September.

“Team Leaders in Lautoka District were called to a briefing this morning to have an overview on the consultation after one week’s exercise.

“Consultation is currently carried out in the evenings when it is understood every body is at home and it is appropriate to visit the meeting venues, the numbers is crucial in this exercise to determine the 80% support. Indian households are known that for women it is very difficult to leave their homes in the night.”

Mr Tora said the Assistant DO Lautoka Yasawa, Ms Ruth Atu says the process needs to meet its objectives for the people to actually participate on this consultation where targeted voting age groups need to give their views on the document.

“The brief this morning was to re-modify the strategy and all agreed on the ‘door to door’ phase visit would mean more positive way of actual participation through this exercise.”

Mr Tora said as for Ra, the Provincial Administrator Mr Aseri Cava says there were positive responses so far from all villages that have been visited in Ra province.

“Team Leaders will then submit their reports after today’s visit.”
