The interim Government has appointed John Prasad, a Project Management and Financial Consultant as the new Fiji Development Bank chairman. While very little is known about Mr Prasad, the interim Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said he was pleased to find a person of Mr Prasads caliber. According to a press released sent out to media outlets late this afternoon, Mr Prasad has strong skills in Financial Analysis and Management to Chair the Board of Fiji Development Bank. (FT)

Reserve Bank of Fiji advisor to governors Annie Rogers has been appointed chief executive officer of the Fiji Islands Trade and Investment Bureau. Mrs Rogers and Adi Koila Nailatikau were shortlisted for the job. Announcing the appointment today, interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said Mrs Rogers brings with her a wealth of experience. (FT)

Villages in Lomaiviti welcomed discussions on the draft Peoples Charter despite a resolution by the Lomaiviti Provincial Council not to support the Charter earlier this year. Interim Health Minister, Dr Jiko Luveni who was on a tour of the Lomaiviti Group, said she was given the opportunity to address issues, concerns and misunderstanding that the people had on the draft document. Fijis national airline Air Pacific will expand its Australia-Fiji services with the introduction of twice-weekly flights between the Gold Coast and Nadi, reports etravelblackboard. But the expansion is suppose to begin on December 1 is subject to the interim Governments approval. The tourism website reports, services will be operated by 160-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft. (FT)

Fiji has been on the agenda of talks between Tongas Foreign Minister Sonatane Tuakinamolahi Taumoepeau-Tupou and Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamlesh Sharma. The meeting between the two leaders was held at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, reports Pacnews. (FT)

The Fiji Visitors Bureau is working on a new strategy that is targeting new source markets to ensure the industry can cope if there are financial or political problems stopping the flow of visitors from limited sources. The Bureau is trying not to be totally reliant on a limited number of countries for visitor arrivals into the country, with the countries traditional markets being Australia, New Zealand, and the United States of America. The interim Prime Minister will use his trip to the United Nations tomorrow to seek the assistance of the United Nations and Commonwealth over the chair for the President's Political Forum. Interim Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the interim Government had written to the Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki Moon and the Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma. Fiji's performance to achieve the Millennium Development Goals has been weak. Gray Wiseman, of the UN Development Program's Pacific Centre, said Fiji lost ground in the face of political and civil uncertainty. He made the comment at the consultation on localising MDGs in the Pacific: A Toolkit for civil society organisations in Fiji. (FT)
