The people of Fiji have been affected by the shocks transmitted to our small nation with the dramatic escalation in global food prices, energy price rises, and the downturn in the global economy. Interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama made the comments to the UN General Assembly at New York. (FT)

Lami Health Centre will now have an uninterrupted supply of water following the donation of a 5000-litre tank by the Fiji School of Medicine yesterday. Three FSM students attached with the health centre at the beginning of the year had identified the need for a water tank while carrying out a student project. (FT)

The Fiji Law Society president Isireli Fa says the formation of an independent Legal Services Commission is a good idea in principle but it is not something that the interim government should undertake. Mr Fa's response was in reaction to the announcement by interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum, in a press conference on Wednesday that an independent Legal Services Commission would be established to look into the complaints against lawyers in Fiji. (FT)

One hundred and three villagers, civil servants and students turned up at the Korovou Hotel in Tailevu yesterday for the charter consultation process a good number considering the low turn out in other centres recently. A question posed to the charter teams including Adi Finau Tabakaucoro, Ratu Meli Vesikula and Lorine Tevi was the move to phase out institutional names that denoted racial affiliations. (FT)

The Fiji Visitors Bureau will soon be known as Tourism Fiji by January 1st next year, says interim tourism minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. He said the idea of having the name changed was that it would be less bureaucratic and a lot more savvy. He said the name change would also help in searches on the net. (FT)
