The Ministry of Sugar is working on plans to try and move away from raw sugar exports to exporting refined white sugar and is in close consultations with our officials in Brussels in trying to secure markets for the product. Interim Minister Joketani Cokanasiga said there is a high demand for refined sugar and they plan to take advantage of the situation. (fijivillage.com)

The Minister for Primary Industries Joketani Cokanasiga says he has arranged for a meeting with the Fiji Sawmillers Association over concerns raised on the increase in royalties over certain classes of timber. (radiofiji.com)

The Interim Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama on Saturday called on the international community not to focus on the removal of the Qarase led government, but to help the current regime move the country forward. He addressed United Nations General Assembly in New York, taking much of his time selling the peoples charter, saying it was going to be a unique document. (fijitv.com)

Wrong translation of the Draft Peoples Charter has caused confusion and raised concern to the Public. A clause in Pillar Two of the draft people’s charter states “to phase out institutional names that denote racial affiliation” the word institutional was translated as schools in the Fijian dialect and not put as an association or organization which it really means. NCBBF members Ratu Timoci Vesikula and Adi Finau Tabakaucoro both admitted that it was an error in translation. (radiofiji.com)

Tubou village in Lakeba, one of the biggest villages in Lau which comprises of about 700 people have completed filling in their forms for the proposed draft Charter. Village headman Sokotukivei Rasolo confirmed that they were encouraged by the Charter consultation team and most of the families have given their full support to the proposed Charter.
