The entry of Digicel into the telecommunications industry has triggered lower call charges and mobile phone prices. The advertising industry yesterday described the competition between the three companies as "communication war". (FT)

The Consumer Council of Fiji has warned mobile operators not to create barriers for consumers. Council chief executive officer Premila Kumar said they had found mobile phone users were being overcharged when they call a phone connected to a rival network. (FT)

The Health Ministry wants a bigger budget to accommodate 28 doctors who will graduate from the Fiji School of Medicine at the end of the year. Interim Health Minister Dr Jiko Luveni said the interim Prime Minister was willing to deal with the problem to allow for an improved health service. (FT)

The Interim Government 2009 budget will be handed down at the end of November. It has been the norm that the budget is announced on the first Friday of November every year. Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office Parmesh Chand says they deferred the announcement as there is no parliamentary debate on the budget. (fijitv.com)
