Asian fishing vessels have been identified by the Quarantine Department as one of the sources which bring illegal food items into the country. Quarantine director Hiagi Forete said they were vigilant in the monitoring of these vessels which enter and leave the country regularly. (FS)

The Health Ministry is actively pursuing milk products which could contain the contaminant melamine. While health authorities have pulled as many as they could find off the shelves, they admit, some are already in the hands of consumers. (fijitv.com)

Fiji hopes there will be an increase in flights for Fiji’s national carrier Air Pacific after Cabinet agreed to sign the Forum’s Pacific Islands Air Services Agreement (PIASA). Once Fiji signs the agreement the largest airline in the region, Air Pacific, will be able to make use of the opportunities and maximise its benefits especially when capacities and frequencies of flights will not be restricted.
