The commemoration of our Independence should also be considered a call to action to create greater opportunities for our youths.

This was the message relayed by the Minister for Education, National Heritage, Culture & Arts, Youth & Sports, Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment, Local Government, Urban Development, Housing and Environment, Mr Filipe Bole while speaking at the Fiji Day celebrations at the Albert Park today.

“I have always admired young people who are concerned with the affairs of the community and their nation. It shows that they take pride in their civic roles and citizenship,” Mr Bole said.

He said the time is now right for young people to harness their own energies and creativities as advocates for reconstruction and development.

“We need to build capacity for them in all spheres of life and national development. We need to nurture the skills and talents of our young man and women to make them the confident leaders of the future,” he said.

Mr Bole reminded the crowd that we need a shared vision to defeat the ghosts of our past.

“It is my hope that when the next 38th year of celebrations arrives those of you who will be around will have the pride and confidence to say that you have seen the more better days than otherwise,” he said.
