Education is the foundation of the development, sustainability and progress, says the Minister for Education, National Heritage, Culture & Arts, Youth & Sports, Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment, Local Government, Urban Development, Housing and Environment, Mr Filipe Bole.

He made these comments while addressing the nation today at Albert Park in Suva where the 38th year of the Fiji Day celebrations took place.

He commended the UNESCO report, which provides the four pillars of education and highlighted the fourth pillar as “learning to live together”.

“This pillar was proposed because of the rise in conflicts and wars throughout the world, mainly due to people’s inability to learn to live together,” Mr Bole said.

He was convinced that it is a key element and the only way of ensuring peace in Fiji during the test of time.

Mr Bole suggested that Education is the ultimate way to narrow the bridge between different races and build a unified Fiji.

“We need good leaders for the future with an urgent need to instil in our youths, a sense of tolerance and unity,” Mr Bole said.
