“Fiji Day is a time to take a step back, reflect and ponder our collective journey as one people. There have been very difficult moments, during this journey, that have threatened to destroy our evolving common identity.

“Yet we have risen above those problems and emerged stronger and wiser in our collective desire to achieve a better future for us all.”

This was the Fiji Day message by the President Ratu Josefa Iloilovatu Uluivuda at Albert Park this morning.

In highlighting that Fiji’s independence is a testimony of our determination to remember our past, celebrate our present achievements and look hopefully and positively to the future, Ratu Iloilo said nothing must deter us from the path to change, peace, progress and prosperity.

Ratu Iloilo reminded the people of Fiji to come together to fully participate and contribute constructively in this initiative.

“The Church, the Vanua and the Government are among the main pillars of Fiji’s society.

“Fiji, our beloved nation, faces some very major problems. Our leaders in the Church, the Vanua and the Government need to work together,” Ratu Iloilo said.

In addition Ratu Iloilo encouraged stakeholders of the country to engage in constructive dialogue, and co-operate to lay the more solid foundation that the people of Fiji need ,to rebuild the country into a non-racial, culturally vibrant and united, well-governed, truly democratic nation.

“Our people deserve to progress and to prosper, and for this to be achieved, we need peace and stability.

“I urge you all to work together for the good of all our people and the nation,” Ratu Iloilo said.

Ratu Iloilo stated that he gave his trust to the Prime Minister and Interim Cabinet to lead and govern the country with humility, foresight and determination and urged the people of the country to collaborate with the Government so that we could build a better Fiji for all.
