| 2/12/08 - Municipal Council terms to expire on 31st January, 2009 |

Cabinet has approved the Promulgation to extend the term of all municipal councils for an additional three months to expire on 31st January, 2009.
Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the Acting Minister for Local Government, Urban Development, Housing and Environment, Mr Filipe Bole.
Mr Bole said that the extension was necessary to accommodate Cabinet’s earlier decision to extend the term of the Local Government Review/Reform Committee by another month up to 30th November 2008, with the final report to be submitted to Cabinet by January 2009.
He also said that following the expiry of the term of all municipal councils, administrators will be appointed to perform the functions of the municipal councils during the transition period which will see the adoption of the recommendations of the Local Governance Review Committee.
