A new website for the Ministry of Health, Women, Social Welfare and Poverty Monitoring has been launched today which will set the new direction for the generation and access of information in the years to come.

The Director of Fiji Health Sector Improvement Programme, Dr Vilikesa Rabukawaqa while officially launching the website at the Ministry of Health Headquarters in Toorak, Suva said the new website is very user-friendly, as well easy to update and access information.

“I am talking with confidence that this is going to be a user friendly functional web site and I am confident that with the Ministry of Health staff having the site more friendly looking and less confusing, they will be able to put in more information that will make the website very informative,” Mr Rabukawaqa said.

He said six years ago the Health Ministry had a website, however it was difficult to update and it was than and there the Ministry decided to develop another website which would be more user- friendly and easy to update.

“Four years ago the Ministry had decided that it needed a new website that would be user friendly, less confusing for both the MOH unit that wishes to post information on the website and users who would like to observe what was on the website.”

Mr Rabukawaqa said apart from a home page the new website would comprise of pages containing vast information about the following:

“Apart from a Home page where you can find the guide for all the other pages, the pages currently available now are: A page for Annual Reports, a page for Curative Health, a page for FPBS, Fiji School of Nursing, a page for Health Information, Medical Council, Nurses Board, Oral Health, Public Health, Research, Training, Vacancies, PSHWSW &PM’s address, a page for contacting the Ministry of Health, Policies of the Ministry of Health, Application Forms for Ministry of Health, a page on PATIS,” he said.

The website will also contain information about the following:

A page on a map of Fiji identifying the Health facilities and their localities. Hopefully should we acquire GIS we would be able to provide detailed information on the website down to nursing zone level.
A page on Health Programme and Projects would be available (Oral health)
A page on the various Boards and Councils – however the two major ones the Medical Council and Nurses Board already have separate pages
There will be a page on Capital Projects and Capital Works and on Women’s Affairs, Social Welfare and Poverty Monitoring

Mr Rabukawaqa said hopefully the website will also include the following:
Answers on the most frequently asked questions
Clinical Services Plan Framework or maybe an extension of the page on Health facilities map to identify role delineation, which is not yet provided and further extension into the various Networks.

“Whether this becomes part of the internet website or part of intranet would still need to be worked out.”

He added there have been extra services that are now being provided outside of MOH infrastructure, which will eventually be incorporated on the new website.
Dialysis services being provided by Kidney Foundation of Fiji
Intra-catheter Laboratories currently as part of Open heart Surgery Services
Cytology Services and Cyto-toxic Suites
Recompression Chamber

The website can be accessed on www.health.gov.fj
