China delegation visit

The five member People’s Daily (China) delegation headed by Dr Chen Junhong, Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Vice-Minister level), visit to Fiji has been highly educational and informative.

The delegation was in Suva for two days (March 27 - 28) and met government ministers, visited media organizations and also held discussions with the representatives of the tourism industry.

Dr Chen and his group held talks with the Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase yesterday (March 27).

Discussion focused on the media industry, prospects for Chinese tourists visiting Fiji shores and developments on bilateral relationship between the two countries.

The delegation also met the Minister for Tourism, Pita Nacuva and exchanged information on the tourism industry developments in the country and future prospects of increasing Chinese tourists in Fiji.

The group also congregated with the management and senior officials of The Daily Post newspaper at their premises in Greig Street.

Both parties exchanged ideas on their respective newspaper organizations.

Their programme also included a meeting with senior officials of the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Limited (FBCL) where they spoke on the roles of the media and the like.

This morning, the delegation were taken on a tour of the Fiji Museum and the group were pleased to observe historical artifacts and heritage on display.

They also met with the Fiji Visitors Bureau who updated the group with current developments in the tourism industry and how best they could attract and increase Chinese tourist numbers to Fiji shores.

Their itinerary for today includes a visit to the Arts Village at Pacific Harbour where the delegation will experience Fijian Culture at its best performance.

The five-member delegation will leave for the People’s Republic of China tomorrow morning.
