The Minister for Education, National Heritage, Culture and Arts, Youth and Sports, Mr Filipe Bole has today officially opened a first ever student computer laboratory at the Fiji Institute of Technology (FIT) Samabula campus.
While opening the Mr Bole said computers have become an integral part of everyday life and the mass use of computers has created the demand for specialists and help-desk technicians.
“In this regard, I believe FIT is well placed to ensure that Fiji exploits the potential of the Information Technology (IT) industry. Fiji has an enormous potential in the industry, no doubt,” Mr Bole said.
He said it is encouraging to note that the institute intends to develop similar facilities at its other centres.
Mr Bole added that FIT, obviously has emerged from a provider of purely technical vocational education and believes if the institute is to fulfil its obligation of providing our nation’s requirements in technological employment, then it needs a massive expansion in computer studies.
He added that this is a great development for FIT and it will definitely offer a marvellous opportunity for students to progress and enjoy their learning experience.
