The Nadroga/Navosa Provincial Council Meeting on this week was told there would be no People's Charter without input from the public. National Council for Building a Better Fiji officials Filimoni Kau, accompanied by Adi Finau Tabakaucoro, told delegates Government would respect the province's decision. (FT)
The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group will meet on Monday to discuss the political situation in Fiji. The Group which addresses serious or persistent violations of the Commonwealths values and principles will meet in London to review the suspension of Pakistan and consider political developments in Fiji. The Pacific Concerns Resource Centre believes any proposal to seek UN support for a political forum, must conform to all relevant international human rights law and principles that applies to Fiji. The President's office has reportedly written to the United Nations and the Commonwealth requesting their support for a proposed political forum that came out of a resolution passed by the NCBBF. The interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum today lodged a complaint to the United Nations Secretary General after he was refused a transit visa by the United States Embassy. Mr Sayed-Khaiyum applied for a transit visa to attend a UN-funded conference in Vienna. (FT)
The Fiji Sugar Corporation has sealed a $1billion deal for the supply of raw sugar as preferential imports to the European Union market over the next seven years. The contract for the supply of 300,000 tonnes of sugar per annum has been sealed with the corporation's traditional EU market buyer, Tate & Lyle. (FT)
