Agricultural Course to stimulate more export opportunities
May 15, 2008, 09:04
About twenty local export agents and Government representatives are currently attending a three-day course that is aimed at creating greater awareness of the latest trends in major global export markets. This knowledge will help participants identify more export opportunities for Fiji’s agricultural products.
The course on exporting Agri-food products to major global markets is using the World Bank’s Global Development Learning Network (GDLN) platform. The platform, among other things, enables the participants to communicate instantly and directly with their counterparts from other countries.
Held at the University of the South Pacific in Suva and facilitated by the Training and Productivity Authority of Fiji (TPAF), the course will not only enhance the participants’ knowledge on the current trends and emerging opportunities, but it will also help participants learn about emerging import-related procedures, policies and regulations on imports of Agri-food products.
The resource personnel for the course are from Japan, France, Malaysia and the United States.
Participants in the course will later be invited to participate in a study mission on export promotion of Agri-food products as a follow-up activity.
The course facilitators recognise that developing countries in Asia produce a wide range of fresh and processed Agri-food products that have potential in the global markets. Such potential stems from the large demand for imported food products in major markets.
