Fire Station Project starts in Nadi
May 15, 2008, 09:08
The Nadi township and surrounding communities will soon have access to a new fire station with state-of-the-art firefighting equipment. This is after the ground-breaking ceremony for the new station was concluded today (Wednesday 14 May).
Minister for Labour, Industrial Relations, Employment, Local Government, Urban Development and Housing, Lekh Ram Vayeshnoi who was chief guest at the ceremony, said the project marks an important milestone for the communities in and around Nadi as the new station will cater for their present and future needs.
Mr Vayeshnoi said the Interim Government recognises that fire safety is one of the foundations upon which healthy and safe communities are built.
He said the Government is working on many fronts not only to address this specific need, but also to address the other equally important needs for all communities around the country.
The Minister acknowledged the National Fire Authority for its initiative, adding that the NFA is continuing to implement its Strategic Roadmap that the Interim Cabinet endorsed last year.
Mr Vayeshnoi said a new fire station is also planned for Savusavu with the site already identified.
