A new Bridge to be constructed by November this year which greatly enhance the livelihood of the people of Balevuto in Ba, the Prime Minister was told today as he visited the sugarcane community.

Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama during his inspection of the construction site also told villages that they will soon breath a sign of relief as government has already allocated funds for the construction and completion of a new bridge.

Advisory Councilor responsible to the Ba area, Mr Bal Krishna said heavy rains in 2006 had washed away the Irish crossing which was constructed 20 years ago and since then, the community had to construct a temporary by pass crossing for the villagers.

He added that it was crucial for the community to have a bridge constructed because the livelihood of the vegetable and sugar cane farmers depended on it.

"I would like to thank Government for the financial assistance it has allocated towards ensuring that a new bridge is constructed,” said Mr Krishna.

He said they were humbled to witness the Prime Minister and his team inspect the damage by the heavy rains and to hear the difficulties faced by the people of Balevuto.

Permanent Secretary to the Prime Ministers Office, Mr Parmesh Chand confirmed that in total, $830,000 has been allocated to the construction and the tender has been given to Western Builders to construct a new bridge by 17 weeks.
