The Fiji Council of Social Services attributes the poverty levels in a recent study to panic increases in the price of food and fuel which has increased the cost of goods and services. FCOSS director Hassan Khan agreed with statistics provided by Dr Wadan Narsey. (FT)

Fiji's economy took a nosedive before and after the 2006 coup and the regime's hopes to revive the economy has failed, says University of the South Pacific economist Dr Biman Prasad. Speaking at the Fiji Update 2008 lectures today, Dr Prasad said while interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry emphasised reforms to revive the economy, the results have not been achieved. (FT)

Children learning to grow food in their gardens or backyard are essential to ensure that individuals have sufficient food supply. Interim Minister for Primary Industries and Agriculture, Joketani Cokanasiga made the statement at the launching of the great Teitei Competition at Kalabu Fijian School. (FT)

Fiji has been appointed the Vice Presidency of the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Development (AIBD) during the 7th AIBD General Conference in Bali, Indonesia. Fijis appointment was overwhelmingly supported by members present in the conference. The 34th annual gathering is currently held until July 24 and is being attended by representatives from the Asia Pacific region. (FT)

A twenty-one member squad to the 2008 Beijing Olympics presented their i tatau to His Excellency the President Ratu Josefa Iloilovatu at Government House today. Ratu Josefa Iloilovatu congratulated the Fiji delegation reminding them to perform to the best of their ability and carry Fiji's name with pride. (FT)
