High Court promulgation 2007

His Excellency, the President Ratu Josefa Uluivuda has allowed for the amendment of the High Court Act 2007.
This follows a recent Cabinet decision that the High Court Act be amended to allow the appointment of suitably qualified persons from countries other than just Australia or New Zealand and an increase in the prescribed number of Judges in the High Court.
In exercise of the powers conferred upon the Interim Government, and upon the exercise of my own deliberate judgement as President of the Republic of the Fiji Islandsas to what is best and good for the people of Fiji, and by the executive authority of the State in accordance with section 85 of the Constitution and such other powers as may appertain, and with advice of Cabinet, I, Josefa Iloilovatu Uluivuda, make this Promulgation.
This promulgation may be cited as the High Court Act (Amendment) Promulgation 2007 which come into force on the 10th of July 2007.
Part II of this Act is amended (a) in section 5(1) by deleting 15 and substituting 18,
(b) in section 5A.
(i) - in paragraph (g) delete and;
(ii) in paragraph (h) delete .. and substitute ;;
(iii) by adding the following countries p
(i) Singapore;
(j) Malaysia;
(k) Hong Kong;
(l)India;
(m) any country which is at the time of the appointment a member of the Commonwealth of nations..
Cabinet had approved the High Court Act (Amendment) Promulgation 2007 following a submission by the Attorney General, Minister for Justice, Electoral Reform and Anti-Corruption, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
