The Minister for Policing and Communications, Hon. Ioane Naivalurua, visited the Walesi Headquarters in Suva, where he met with the Walesi Management and Board Members as part of the Ministry’s ongoing engagement with the broadcasting sector.
This marked the first visit by a Minister responsible for Communications to the Walesi Headquarters.
Minister Naivalurua acknowledged Walesi’s important contribution to Fiji’s Broadcasting sector through its Digital Television (DTV) transmission platform, enabling free-to-air digital television nationwide. He emphasised the importance of strengthening services that support national development and ensure that communities across Fiji continue to benefit from accessible and reliable television services.
Management and staff were encouraged to be results-driven, and to continue adopting “innovative” approaches to improve service delivery, customer experience, and overall broadcast transmission reliability. The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with Walesi management and relevant stakeholders as the sector progresses.
Walesi, in turn, highlighted its ongoing work in supporting nationwide television access, including terrestrial and satellite-supported coverage, Walesi App, supporting community and school installations. Walesi also reaffirmed its commitment to building a resilient and secure broadcasting network for all Fijians.
The Minister also took the opportunity to thank Walesi staff, acknowledging their contributions to Fiji’s digital and broadcasting landscape, and encouraging continued teamwork, innovation, and service excellence for the benefit of all Fijians.
