Cabinet today approved the National Council for Older Persons Decree 2012.
Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Jiko Luveni.
Minister Luveni explained that the Decree establishes the National Council of Older Persons.
She said that the National Council of Older Persons is a Council that will be established to advocate for, liaise on behalf of, and represent the best interests of older persons in Fiji.
The Minister said that the Decree is designed to implement the National Policy on Ageing 2011- 2015.
The Decree will commence on a date to be appointed by Dr Luveni as the Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation.
