“Teamwork is crucial for social cohesion, however, to achieve that, we must first mould the characters of our children to have a sense of purpose, to have a vision and a direction.”
This was the message highlighted by the Minister for Education Hon. Aseri Radrodro while officiating at the 129th Fiji Principal Association Conference held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.
Minister Radrodro highlighted that with the theme “Building Bridges, Building Teams for Academic Leaders’, is most appropriate as it calls on your leadership direction, character, and vision to uplift the standards of equal education access for all of our people.
“It is no secret that much is expected of you all as leaders of our education sector. Your roles are so crucial as you lead the evolution and prepare our children to become vibrant and capable members of our nation in their adult life.”
“You are tasked to bridge the gap between tradition and innovation, and I wish to encourage you all to think about the need to empower your students to be independent thinkers.”
Minister Radrodro pointed out that children are curious, creative, vibrant, and also vulnerable to all the challenges that come with life’s journey; and he reminded school leaders that all children are inquisitive, creative, and vibrant.
“I would like to ask you all to please get involved in the lives of your students. Get to know them and understand their backgrounds, and instill in them a renewed sense of hope and faith that we are responsible leaders, equipped to guide and nurture them to become the best version of themselves.”
“The high level of student dropouts; teenage pregnancy; drug use and delinquents involved in crime is too much to have us complacent and ignorant.”
Sharing similar sentiments, the President of the Fiji Principals Association, Dr. Rajesh Krishna, reminded the heads of schools of their role in preparing children to become vibrant and capable citizens in the future.
The two-day conference will focus on professionals, with the primary goal of nurturing leadership potential within the entire educational community, from students to teachers and staff.
