The Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Sashi Kiran, encouraged the women who are part of the Soqosoqo Vakamarama ni Yasana o Kadavu two-day Women’s Empowerment Leadership Program to embrace their leadership skills.
The training is currently being held at the Great Council of Chiefs Lounge at the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs complex.
“You already are women leaders. Women have been leading in all spheres of work. You are great planners; you plan for your household, for soqos, for your families, and communities, yet often times we don’t think of these skills as those of leaders. As women, we often underestimate our talents.”
Assistant Minister Kiran reiterated that the Coalition Government fully supports the economic empowerment of women as a crucial strategy to address gender-based violence and poverty.
Further stating that by investing in the skills and capabilities of women, we are not only investing in their individual success but also in the prosperity and well-being of our society and nation as a whole.
The training content prepared specifically focuses on increasing the women’s development skills to help them broaden their knowledge of current leadership structures.
Women’s Leadership and Decision Making, Business Entrepreneurship, as well as Project Planning and Budgeting are some of the topics that are being covered at the workshop.
An estimated fifty women leaders from various village communities in Kadavu are in Suva to attend the Women’s Empowerment Leadership Program, which is organised by the Soqosoqo Vakamarama ni Yasana o Kadavu.
This training initiative is aligned to Fiji’s National Gender Policy, which is targeted at addressing gender discrimination through improving equal participation of both men and women in development processes.
